USA vs Slovenia: The Robbery

Jozy Altidore of USA and Michael Bradley of USA confront the referee about the disallowed goal..FIFA World Cup 2010 Group C..Slovenia v USA..18th June, 2010.

Officiated by the disgrace that is Koman Couilibaly, today's game was an emotional roller coaster. This man wouldn't call anything even a no-doubter when Jozy Altidore was taken out on his way to the goal just outside the box. That should have resulted in a Red Card for Slovenia, but Couilibaly did not see it that way and gave a Yellow. Couilibaly made questionable calls all game including charging Robbie Findley with a handball when it clearly hit him in the face. Then in the 86' Maurice Edu scored off a Landon Donovan free kick. Koman Couilibaly once again decided that he had seen something totally different and disallowed the goal. The reason according the FIFA play-by-play of the game is a foul committed Maurice Edu (picture below).

Watch the video below and judge for yourself, where is the foul Edu committed? The only foul I see is Slovenia holding Jozy Altidore and giving Michael Bradley a bear hug.

Now I cannot blame everything on Couilibaly's "Phantom Fouls", the United States played disgustingly sloppy in the first half giving up two goals. The US just seemed to not care and did not challenge shots, leaving Slovenia with open looks on goal. The United States is one of the top teams in the world according the FIFA rankings, but they don't play like they are consistently. Either way we where robbed of a victory today.
