Lyon has signed the 24 year old Frenchmen for a fee of € 22 million ($27.8 Million). Olympique Lyonnais Official Website reports today that Gourcuff has passed his physical and will sign a long-term contract with the team.

Lyon has not won France's Top Division of Football (Ligue 1) since the 2008 season and adding this young playmaker, aswell as Jimmy Briand from Rennes, should boost their offense. As of now Lyon is just happy they and not one of the juggernaut football clubs were able to capture Gourcuff:

"OL are also satisfied that Yoann Gourcuff, best French player in 2009, has privileged the French championship Lyon, rather than being lured abroad by one of the many clubs interested in his signature."

We will have to wait and see if this investment pays off and puts Lyon back at the top of the table at seasons end.
