It was announced today that on Friday August 5, 2011, Manchester United will host The New York Cosmos at Old Trafford. This will be The New York Cosmos’ first match in over 25 years, with a 40th Anniversary match in New York City being planned for the fall. This will be the last time the 36-year-old midfielder will play for the Red Devils, this will also be the return of Eric Cantona to Old Trafford. The Cosmos' first team will be hand picked by Honorary President Pelé and managed by Eric Cantona. The team will be made up of highly notable international players and elite Cosmos Academy and Cosmos U23 players.

"This is going to be a big night for me and my family but one which I intend to enjoy and I will savour every moment," Scholes said. "I have spent my whole footballing life at Manchester United, so this will be an emotional farewell.

“I wish to congratulate Paul for such an incredible career at Manchester United and I am looking forward to returning to Old Trafford in my new role with The New York Cosmos,” says Cantona. “This will be a significant and memorable match for all.”
