One sections of FC Twente's De Grolsch Veste stadium roof collapsed this afternoon during the renovation of the stadium. One person has been killed and 16 injured as a result. The roof collapsed after two support beams buckled. The reason why the beams buckled is not yet known.

"Ten people were treated in hospital and two of those people were severely injured. The exact nature of the injuries I cannot tell you at the moment." A spokeswomen for the city of Enschede said. "Everyone is out to our knowledge. People are still searching with dogs and specialist camera teams, but that is as an extra precaution, a double-check."

The renovation of De Grolsch Veste (The Grolsh Fortress) was to expand the capacity from 24,000 to 32,000 before the start of the 2011/2012 season.
