Lyon started off the season with sights on the title, but Lyon currently has two tie games, 1 win, and four losses. The question at hand is if Lyon was prepared from the beginning of the season or was it a blind statement. So far Lyon has not delivered anything to justify that they are giving their utmost effort. Lyon recently acquired midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. Gourcuff has not scored any goals, but has had a clean sheet throught his four appearances, if he was a good pick up at first yes but looking at Lyon statistics they need a top scorer desperately and if Gourcuff doesn’t begin to deliver they may sell him. Lyon is currently on a two game losing streak. Sep 20, 2010 Lyon faced off against Gourcuff's former club Bordeaux losing 2-0. Lyon returned home with shattered hopes. Puel Claude hoped to beat St. Etienne the following week but Lyon lacked there “realism” and watched in dismay as Dimitri Payet Scored from a free kick in the 74’. Lyon believe they are cursed, and after falling to St. Etienne they once again returned home with hopes shattered.
I for one am a Lyon fan; I am disappointed in their recent Ligue 1 performances and have waited for them to retake the league title. When I heard that Gourcuff was coming to Lyon I was ecstatic, but so far I have not seen him deliver or live up to my expectations. Even though he has had a clean sheet for his four appearances I hoped he would score or at least get an assist and help transform Lyon into a formidable opponent and challenger in both the Champions League and Ligue 1. I hope that Lyon can get back on their feet and begin to play like they should have been playing all along.
