NY Red Bulls select John Rooney

The New York Red Bulls drafted John Rooney 25th overall in the 2nd Round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. John is the 20 year old brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney. Rooney last played for English Club Macclesfield Town FC, scoring 3 goals in 41 appearances. He was not very impressive in his first outting in the MLS Combine but scored a goal on the second day as well as a nice down field pass that almost lead to a goal for AdiPure. Rooney was one of four drafted by the Red Bulls on Thursday, the other three being: F Corey Hertzog, D Tyler Lassiter, and MF Billy Cortes. Rooney also joins Thierry Henry and Rafael Márquez.

He may be hard to understand sometimes, but I like this kid a lot. John is a good kid, he didnt forget to thank his parents for their support. He is after all 20 years old and getting ready to play over 3,000 miles away from home, thats pretty hard for a parent. John said he is excited to be part of MLS and the NY Red Bulls, adding that he will give 100% for the team. I hope he makes a name for himself and has great success with the Red Bulls and in MLS.
